ALWT (ADVANCED LIGHT WEAPONS TRAINING)

ALWT is a further progression of knowledge, skills and proficiency with other light weapon systems and anti-personnel weapons. ALWT focuses on operations, employment and tactical training consisting of the following Courses: Crew-Served / Light Weapons, Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS) II System and anti-personnel weapons to include: Fragmentation Hand Grenades, Flashbang Grenades, Pyrotechnics Signals, Claymore Munitions and Shoulder-Launched Munitions (SLM). ALWT provides additional weapons capabilities and professional development of Special Warfare Airmen. BSAT is an essential prerequisite to ALWT, as base knowledge, weapons safety skills and operator competency and professionalism are carried-over and applied to advanced light weapons training.

ALWT Block 8 training focuses on operation, employment, marksmanship, qualification fire, SUT, mounted & dismounted operations, SOPs and TTPs with the following Crew-Served / Light Weapons:

  • M249 – 5.56mm Squad Automatic Weapon/Light Machine Gun
  • M240B – 7.62mm Medium Machine Gun
  • M2A1 – .50 cal. Heavy Machine Gun
  • MK-19 – 40mm Grenade Machine Gun
  • M320 – 40mm hand-held Grenade Launder

ALWT Block 9 covers the operation, employment and capabilities of the mounted M153 CROWS II System which allows technical operators to acquire and engage targets with crew-served weapons from inside an armor combat vehicle. Block 9 training focuses on the individual technical and live-fire field training of the CROWS II System to include all TTPs and SOPs.
